Best Smart Bidet Toilet Seat for Seniors in 2024

Do you have any loved ones who need a little extra help to care for themselves? Or it that person you?

For the elderly and the infirm, a number of factors can come into play as far as maintaining personal hygiene goes.

First of all, seniors may become less flexible and less coordinated, and reaching behind to wipe themselves properly can become much more difficult.

Second is the decline in their vision, which can impact their ability to see and make sure that they have wiped themselves properly. They are also likely to take showers or baths a little less often than before if they have difficulty getting themselves in and out of the shower. They of course want to be as clean as possible, but their physical limitations might make it much harder than when they were younger.

A smart bidet toilet seat can help tremendously with all these issues, as there is less need to reach around to wipe thoroughly. A bidet makes it easy to keep clean "down there", lessening the risk of UTIs and enhancing comfort.

However, there can be other problems for seniors associated with smart bidet seats. Most bidet seats have small, streamlined and techy remotes that can be hard for the elderly to understand and even to read. With a plethora of bidet features to choose from on these remotes it can be an intimidating experience for seniors who may not be tech-savvy.

Here are our picks for top bidet seats for seniors in 2024:

1. The Cascade 3000 bidet toilet seat, by Dignity Solutions, was designed to assist those wanting to "age-in-place". The large remote (you can choose either the large or compact remote) is ADA compliant, making it very simple to read and to use. When in doubt, the green AUTO button will take care of the job by performing a one minute wash, followed by a 3 minute dry. Simple!

Also most bidet toilet seats are unable to withstand the lid being sat on. A "sittable" bidet seat lid is handy for anyone, but particularly for those with mobility issues or fatigue when standing up for longer periods of time. It is also useful for those who assist others in bathing or any other duties in the bathroom.  The Cascade 3000 lid is sittable and can support up to 300 lbs.

The Cascade 3000 bidet toilet seat also has an LED night light that illuminates the bowl to make it easier to navigate to during those late night visits. The bidet seat has all the important features that you want on a luxury bidet toilet seat: on-demand warm water, stainless steel self-cleaning nozzle, warm air dryer and deodorizer. There is also a "child mode" setting for when the grandkids come to visit.

Another bonus aspect of the Cascade 3000 is that it fits many of the hard-to-fit French curve 1-piece toilets.

NOTE: If you wish to add a riser to either of these seats it is possible, as long as you choose a compatible riser. The riser will need to have a FLAT top and bottom, and will need to use the same bolt holes that the toilet uses. Risers that clamp to the toilet bowl will not work.

Here is an example of a riser that will work with a bidet seat:

You may have to bring the mounting plate that comes with the bidet seat to a hardware store to buy two 6" long bolts and wing nuts to connect the bidet seat properly to the riser. The head of the bolts should sit flush in the bracket and fill the space properly without protruding.

Another great option is a riser that is installed directly on the floor, with the toilet mounted on top of it. This requires removing the toilet, so it is a bigger deal to install.
